Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common problems affecting the hand. This is a condition in which there is excessive pressure on the median nerve. This is the nerve in the wrist that allows feeling and movement to parts of the hand. This includes the palm, thumb, index finger, middle finger, and to half of the ring finger. The small finger (the “pinky”) is typically not affected.
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palm side of your hand. When the median nerve is compressed, the symptoms can include numbness, tingling, weakness and nerve pain in the hand, wrist and fingers.
Some people who develop carpal tunnel syndrome were born with a small carpal tunnel. People at risk for carpal tunnel syndrome are those who do activities or jobs that involve repetitive finger use. Using hand tools that vibrate may also lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. Certain conditions may also increase your risk for developing carpal tunnel syndrome including diabetes, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, fluid retention during pregnancy, vitamin B6 deficiency, work stress, etc.
The following natural remedies may help to relieve pressure on the median nerve and eventually in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome;
• Apply Arnica oil to the affected hands or use Arnica pills as recommended by the manufacturer.
• Boil Fenugreek in water until it become a thick paste. Remove from the heat. Apply bearably hot to the affected area.
• Have a decoction of Ginger 3 to 4 times a day.
• Have a glass of pineapple juice daily. Fresh pineapple may help ward off carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms because it contains bromelain that can ease off inflammation.
• Heat two tablespoons of Mustard oil. Add half tablespoon of Turmeric to it. Apply bearably hot to the affected area.
