Epsom Salt

Epsom Salt

Epsom salt also known as magnesium sulfate or bath salt, is a naturally occurring mineral compound with lots of health benefits that have been used in treating different ailments for hundreds of years. You can find Epsom salt online and at most drug and grocery stores.

While Epsom salt is generally safe, there are a few negative effects that can occur if you use it incorrectly. This is only a concern when you take it by mouth. The magnesium sulfate in it can have a laxative effect. Consuming it may result in diarrhea, bloating, or upset stomach. You can prevent these by using it correctly and talking with your doctor or healthcare provider before using it or increasing your dosage.

The following people should avoid consuming Epsom salt orally as they may experience unwanted and potentially dangerous side effects:
• people who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• people who have kidney disease
• people who have heart disease
• children

Let’s see some of the therapeutic benefits of Epsom salt to human and plant health;

• One of the main attributes of Epsom salt is its anti-inflammatory action. It reduces inflammation and pain of joints, it eases stiffness and soreness of muscles etc. Add 2-3 cups of Epsom salt in a bath tub filled with warm water. Soak in it for 15-20 minutes

•  It is used for treating infected foot, to removie bad odour, and soften rough skin. Add 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt in a tub of lukewarm water. Soak the affected area for 15 minutes twice daily

•  It is very effective for treating earache.Take 2 pinches Epsom salt. Mix in half spoon of water. Put one drop in each ear.

•  It detoxifies the cells. Add a cup of Epsom salt in your bathing tub (warm). Soak yourself for 15 to 20 minutes. Do it on alternate days.

• Epsom salt helps to fertilize your houseplants. Most plants need nutrients like magnesium and sulfur to stay in good health, and Epsom salt makes the primary nutrients in most plant foods (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) more effective. Sprinkle Epsom salt once weekly to help nourish your houseplants, flowers, and vegetables.

•  Empson salt helps to keep your lawn green. Magnesium sulfate crystals, when added to the soil, provide vital nutrients that help prevent yellowing leaves and the loss of green color (magnesium is an essential element in the chlorophyll molecule) in plants. Add 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt to a gallon of water and sprinkle on your lawn to keep the grass healthy and green.
