Anal Fissure

Anal Fissure

An Anal Fissure is a small cut or tear or ulcer in the lining of the anus (the opening at the end of the digestive tract where stool leaves the body).

The tear in the skin causes severe pain and some bright red bleeding during and after bowel movements. At times, the Fissure can be deep enough to expose the muscle tissue underneath.

In most cases, the tear heals on its own within four to six weeks. In cases where the Fissure persists beyond eight weeks, it’s considered chronic.

What are the symptoms of an Anal Fissure?

An Anal Fissure may cause one or more of the following symptoms:

• A visible tear in the skin around your anus.
• A skin tag, or small lump of skin, next to the tear.
• Sharp pain in the anal area during bowel movements.
• Streaks of blood on stools or on toilet paper after wiping.
• Burning or itching in the anal area.

What causes an Anal Fissure?

An Anal Fissure most often occurs when passing large or hard stools. Chronic constipation or frequent diarrhea can also tear the skin around the anus.

Other common causes include:

• Straining during childbirth.

• Constipation and straining during bowel movements.

• Passing large or hard stools.

• Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), such as Crohn’s disease.

• Decreased blood flow to the anorectal area.

• Overly tight or spastic anal sphincter muscles.

In rare cases, an anal fissure may develop due to:

• Anal Cancer
• HIV
• Tuberculosis
• Syphilis
• Herpes
• Anal intercourse

Homeopathic Treatment of Anal Fissure

Homeopathy aims at curing Anal Fissure in a holistic manner. Homeopathy does not only cure and treat the acute Anal Fissure, but also cure the chronic form of it. Homeopathy improves the digestive system, and eliminates the symptoms of Anal Fissures. The homeopathic medicines avoid the recurrences of this condition. And it is worth noting that this treatment is natural and does not have any known side effects.

Commonly indicated Homeopathic remedies:

• Sulphur: It works well where the stool is hard and dry, causing tears and immense pain in the anus while passage. The patient is fearful of even going to the toilet as he thinks of the pain that will accompany the passage of stool. Sulphur is of great help in reducing the pain and softening the stool. The pain is almost always accompanied by burning. Itching in anus due to fissures is best controlled with the use of Sulphur.

• Nitric Acid: This is extremely beneficial and helpful in cases where there are stitching and tearing pains in the anus, or the pain is cutting or stinging in nature. The stool passed is hard, and is accompanied by bright red bleeding from the anus.

• Ratanhia: This is an effective medicine for the treatment of Anal Fissures and is particularly beneficial as a remedy for long-lasting pains in the rectum with excessive burning that follows stool passage. Patients often describe the pain as being similar to broken glass or a knife piercing in the rectum. The stool requires much effort to be passed out due to the constricted anus. Ratanhia is the homeopathic medicine that can work wonders in such a situation.

• Paeonia: This can be used when offensive fluid is discharged from the longstanding Anal Fissures. The anus seems ulcerated and torn with intolerable pain during and after stool passage.

• Silicea is the best choice when the discharge contains the pus with offensive odour. The stool is passed with difficulty and straining. The stool comes out partially and then recedes again.
